Why Do All My Callers Say They Found Me on My Website?

Why Do All My Callers Say They Found Me on My Website?

For many years, friends, clients, and people I meet at networking meetings as well as people who have come to hear me speak have asked me, "I work so hard on my social media pages, yet when I ask other people how they heard of us, they say my website."

Let me start with a story of mine.

I ask every new person who calls, how did you hear about us? Many of them have said they heard my ad on the radio or in the newspaper. One problem, I do not advertise on any radio station or any paper. I figure people need to have an answer so they just answer the question the best they can.

Have you ever seen "Jimmy Kimmel Asking People on the Street"? Most of them, whether they know the answer or not, answer the question he asks even if it is about nothing real.

So back to the question, "Why do all my callers say they found me on my website?"

First, you have your website listed on your social media page, so once you have their interest, they go to your website for more information, then call, and that is their real answer as they are calling you from your website, even though they started on your social media page.

Second, you may have spent a lot of time posting articles from your website, sending them there yourself to read more. Again, they call you from your website.

Third, (the one I do the most) I write a blog, like this one, post it to my website, then post a teaser to my social media page to read the rest on my website. They call from my website and again that is the answer to, How did you hear about me?

Finally, the people you are connected to on these platforms may recommend you by sending you to the website you posted to your social media profile.

There are many places we advertise our website. Our cards, on posters, and any advertising you do. It is not surprising that this is the answer to the question How did you hear about us?

In closing, do not let their answer slow down working on your social media pages or any other advertising you do. Many people would have never visited your website without being on your social media page, where you lead them to your website for more information on you and your products and services. Additionally, many of the people you meet networking go to LinkedIn first to find you. Make sure your profile is full and looks great for first time visitors. Most would never have thought of going to your website first.

Quite honestly, I am happy they called.
